O Fallen Leaves now dead across the ground
Your colors crumbling into dust and dirt
With frost and snow, your life and brilliance drowned
Why have you fallen lying cold?
Why did your coat of green grow old?
O Fallen Leaves now dead across the ground
A world of brown (a mocking desert)
Resting lifeless in empty waiting mounds
Why have you fallen lying cold?
Why did your coat of green grow old?
O Fallen Leaves now dead across the ground
New life you’ll bring, composting into dirt
You’ll feed the roots and keep your tree alive.
That’s why you’ve fallen lying cold
That’s why your coat of green grew old
